Bernadette is an actor, theatre-maker and founder member of Gaitkrash Theatre Company, a collaborative of artists who make performance work at the intersection between theatre, sound art and visual art. Recent performance projects include an Irish tour of her translation/adaptation Killing Stella (AC Ireland Theatre Project Award 2018); a collaboration with the Llanarth Group on an Irish premiere of Cosy by Kaite O’Reilly for Cork Midsummer Festival 2019 (AC Ireland Theatre Project Award 2019), and the AC Wales funded Wales tour of Playing the Maids, a multi-modal, intercultural – USA, Wales, Korea, Ireland, Singapore – devised performance piece inspired by Jean Genet’s classic The Maids.
Bernadette is also designated Linklater voice teacher, a qualified yoga instructor (HYV Goa, India), and she holds a Diploma in Acting from LAMDA, an MA (adaptation - novel to film script) from UCC, a PhD (contemporary post-dramatic theatre) from the University of Exeter, and a Diploma in Translation (English/German) from City University London. She has published in the areas of adaptation and theatre practice. She teaches adaptation, actor training and voice in the Department of Theatre at UCC.
