The Kristin Linklater Voice Centre (KLVC) is an established international training facility for actors, singers, speakers and professionals, offering a workshop programme rooted in the vision, values and principles established by the late Kristin Linklater.

We are looking for a Business Manager to expand the KLVC programme, manage  its operational staff and be a strong, visible, effective and supportive member of the executive team.

Candidates will have strong business acumen alongside personal skills to inspire and encourage a venture which is unique in its sphere.

Job Description

This is a senior managerial role at the Kristin Linklater Voice Centre Ltd (KLVC), reporting to the Managing Director. It is expected that the Manager will reside on the Orkney mainland once the position is accepted.

The Business Manager will be responsible for developing and delivering an engaging calendar of Linklater Voice workshops, expanding the workshop offerings, additional events and external hires of the Centre. Ensuring a high standard of customer service and care, staff management and development. They will be responsible for the daily and year end financial reporting, and maintaining and updating our health and safety, fire and other policies, contracts and procedures.

The Business Manager will assist the Managing Director with the development of the strategy and vision for KLVC, Linklater Voice Community and Kristin Linklater Foundation ensuring the Brand, Marketing and Social engagement is inline with the vision.

The salaried position will include weekend working hours and additional operational duties to assist the team to deliver the workshop and event timetabling/programme.

Financial - daily ledgers/invoicing/VAT returns




Staff - contracts/staff management/development




Policy & Compliance - reviews, action plans, compliance/risk management, fire, security and health and safety




Strategy and Development - strategic planning, new partnerships and affiliations, identify new markets




Sales and Marketing - go-to-market strategies, branding, product development, website development, database handling




Operational duties - General duties, hosting, driving





Experience/Personal Specification


  • Educated to degree level or equivalent with 2 years working experience or has 5 years previous experience in a similar/business management/finance/hospitality or arts based role.
  • Warm, welcoming manner and someone who enjoys connecting/communicating with people.
  • Self motivated and the ability to be a team player
  • Ability to problem solve, use initiative and multitask
  • Ability to manage a small team.
  • Attention to detail and deliver a high standard of customer care
  • Strong IT, communication and presentation skills


  • Experience in marketing and website development
  • Good IT skills and previous experience in joomla, mailchimp/databases and social media
  • Interest in the arts, Kristin Linklater, the Linklater Voice method and the Linklater community.
  • Willingness to assist the Operational team with general duties, hosting and driving to deliver the workshop/event programme.
