Advanced Shakespeare: Monologue and Scene work

    Format

The 30-hour workshop runs 7 hours a day Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday - and Saturday morning. Thursday is a day off for sight-seeing or rest.

    Content

Shakespeare is the Olympics of the art of acting. This will be Big, Bold, On-Your-Feet and In- Your-Body Shakespeare! THIS IS NOT AN ACADEMIC EXERCISE! Shakespeare's text is the emotional, intellectual, physical, vocal personal trainer for actors. Working on Shakespeare’s soliloquies, speeches and scenes is a joyful marrying of form and content forged in deep exploration of embodied language, embodied rhythm, physicalised listening, enhanced appreciation of rhetorical elements and the organicity of figures of speech. We restore the experience of language to the body and begin to enter an Elizabethan way of thinking. Light shines on the text as we shed 21st century behaviour and release the bold fullness of our innate classical selves. Each participant is individually coached by Kristin and short scenes are explored.
