“The workshop was an amazing opportunity to come back to Linklater training and work specifically with the middle of the voice. I discovered things about resonances and their relationship to text”.
Voice & Speech: Louis Colaianni
Format
The 30-hour workshop runs 7 hours a day Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday - and Saturday morning. Thursday is a day off for sight-seeing or rest.
Content
Kristin Linklater has invited Louis Colaianni to teach a workshop that combines her Linklater Voice work with his revolutionary approach to speech and phonetics. Louis’ book is The Joy of Phonetics and Accents and he invented an embodied process for learning phonetics and exploring accents with Phonetic Pillows. His work is, indeed, joyful, as his beautifully expressive small “pillows” fly through the air and are embraced. The soft, colorful, three-dimensional IPA- shaped pillows represent each of the IPA phonetic symbols. Colaianni's phonetic pillows move the IPA learning process from the page to the whole body and exemplifies the efficacy of experiential and multisensory learning.
This is a physical experience of Accents and Dialects for actors, teachers, voice and speech professionals and all those who have a passion and fascination for the infinite variety of the way people speak. The approach provides a step-by-step process for learning a diversity of American, English and foreign accents. The workshop will show you how to acquire many accents with self-sufficiency. This is an opportunity to learn a skill, take it with you, and meet the professional and artistic demands of language transformation. Whether you are preparing for an accent role, honing auditions pieces with accents, building your accent repertoire and gaining versatility, or guiding others in these pursuits, this workshop will meet the need. Actors, singers, teachers, public speakers, English learners, and all those interested in language are welcome.
