    Introductory Shakespeare

    Format

The 30-hour workshop runs 7 hours a day Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday - and Saturday morning. Thursday is a day off for sight-seeing or rest.

    Content

Whether you want to learn how to speak Shakespeare for your professional development as an actor or to experience the sheer joy of his language, this is a pleasurable introduction to the secrets of Shakespearean verse-speaking.  We start with sonnets. Within the 14 lines of a Shakespeare sonnet we absorb physically and emotionally such elements of verse-speaking as Imagery, Rhythm, Rhyme and the Iambic Pentameter.  We explore how to embody thought and words - we ‘get out of the head and into the body’ in order to enter the visceral world of the Elizabethans.  We enter an experiential, on-your-feet search for clues to understanding Shakespeare - clues to be found in such figures of speech as Onomatopoeia, Assonance, Alliteration and Antithesis. Then we work on a speech from one of the plays. Kristin works individually with each person. Every participant experiences a transformation in their ability to understand and speak Shakespeare.
